About Us
Cavendish Cooks was founded in Bath in 2011 on a love of great ingredients and proper home-cooking. The two founders established a strong reputation and its frozen meals have become popular purchases in grocers, garden centres, and community shops in Bath and the South West.
In October 2019, Leah Mercer purchased the Cavendish Cooks and set about developing the business, beginning with the cooking. Leah has been passionate about flavours in her cooking from an early age. In her late teens she chose cooking over photography and set out to build her repertoire in the kitchen. She first trained at The Grange cooking school before setting out on various travels to gain experience of the flavours and cooking styles across the world. She trained further in Thailand and brings the fresh, zingy Asian flavours into her recipes with style.
Leah has run a popular and highly rated bistro café in Frome for a decade and worked in restaurants before that. Now she is bringing her talent for flavoursome nourishing food to the homecooked dishes of Cavendish Cooks – updating the classics and adding new meals from her travels around the world.
Saving your time
Many people find cooking relaxing, but sometime after a day’s work it just seems time-consuming. Keep our frozen meals in your freezer for those days when you want convenience, but still want tasty, healthy food.
The best ingredients
Give the best flavour. Having worked in food in the south west for over a decade we know who the best suppliers are to source the best local ingredients from. All our meat and eggs are free-range, and our fish comes from sustainable sources.
Minimal waste
We hand cook all our meals in small batches in our commercial kitchen in a converted barn in the village of Mells. We only order the ingredients we need to make each batch – keeping our production waste to a minimum.
Eco-friendly packaging
We are one of first to use a wood fibre-based tray – the Huhtamaki fresh! tray. This tray, manufactured in Northern Ireland, can be composted in your garden like an egg box. Or it can be recycled as cardboard after rinsing. The sleeve that surrounds it is printed on FSC accredited card and can also be recycled.
“Our meals were there in the freezer in our Bath holiday rental when we arrived. What a wonderful way to start our break! Every meal was delightful, especially the Boeuf Bourguignon.”
Julie, Manchester
“There is no doubt Cavendish’s fish pie is the best by a mile!”
Edward, Trowbridge
